Grade Level Expectations

 
3rd and 4th grade boys and 4th grade girls 

  • Equal teams - the players are divided up on an A/B basis to ensure parity between the two teams.
  • The goal is to teach the game, learn the basic fundamentals and reinforce team responsibility.


5th grade boys and girls

  • General athleticism, field sense, effort
  • Ground balls, Throwing and catching
  • Pay attention to the drills
  • Two handed a plus but not expected
  • Defensive positioning, shooting skills
  • Specific positions (except Goalie) are not selected


6th grade boys and girls

  • General athleticism and effort - well rounded player
  • Field sense - moving to the pass, throwing and catching on the run, hustle for ground balls, two-way play
  • Beginning of a two hand movement of the ball
  • Throwing and catching, defensive positioning, shooting
  • Specific positions  determined on an offense/defense basis- still teaching close defense, offensive movement


7th grade boys and girls

  • General athleticism and effort
  • Field sense
  • Two way play- hustle in both offensive and defensive situations
  • Movement towards the ball
  • Movement of the ball - team play vs. selfishness
  • Positioning on the field
  • Two hand movement of the ball
  • Throwing and catching, defensive positioning, shooting
  • Specific positions are used - select number of close defense, middies, close attack and goalie.  Anticipate a preference for ability to play multiple positions (ie. close defense and defensive middie)
  • Attitude and desire


8th grade boys and girls

  • General athleticism and effort
  • Field Sense critical
  • Movement off the ball to open space
  • Movement towards the ball
  • Team play vs. One-on-one
  • Expect two hands
  • Throwing and catching, defensive positioning, shooting
  • Specific positions are selected - ability to play multiple positions a plus
